Death and Resurrection

I miscarried two days before Good Friday 2025.

I work at my church, serving as a worship leader, and when I’m going through something I find I need distractions to cope. So I went to our service rehearsal even though I knew I was actively miscarrying. (Not my best idea, but I was definitely in shock.) It was surreal to say the least. I was absolutely heartbroken knowing my baby had died, and yet I was sitting through a presentation on the hope we have in Jesus’ death and resurrection. I sang the hymn ‘It Is Well’ for the rehearsal—fitting for what I was experiencing. That felt like a gift from the Lord, a chance to put my trust in Him through worship. I got to sit through the service four or five times in all, and that felt like a gift too. Again and again and again, I was reminded that we in Christ have hope: death is not the end. Again and again I worshiped the Lord:

When peace like a river, attendeth my way
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say
It is well, it is well, with my soul

It is well
With my soul
It is well, it is well with my soul

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come
Let this blest assurance control
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate
And hath shed His own blood for my soul

It is well
With my soul
It is well, it is well with my soul

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, o my soul!

It is well
With my soul
It is well, it is well with my soul

It is well
With my soul
It is well, it is well with my soul.
