“I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word, I hope; my soul waits for the LORD more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.”
Have you ever stared at the clock, willing the minutes to move faster?
As someone who struggles with insomnia, I can tell you I definitely have. There were a few times I sat by the window, looking to the east, willing dawn to shed it first light. Searching for the sunrise, anticipating the start of the day.
That’s what I imagine the psalmist is talking about. The guards of a city sitting in their watchtowers, willing the morning to come. Anticipating its coming. Knowing it will be there eventually, and it will come right on time.
That’s also how I want to wait for the LORD—with confidence, anticipation, and yearning.
